In this section, you will find detailed information about the competition phases, including key dates, the required repertoire for each round, and audiovisual recording criteria. Please consult the complete calendar to ensure your preparation aligns with the specific requirements for each phase.

PROGRAMME AND SCHEDULE

April 10, 2025 - Pre-selection Round

Deadline for submitting the application and video for the first preselection phase. See the audiovisual recording section for details.

Programme:

  • A recent video recording (less than 6 months old), of good quality and unedited, featuring two short solo piano pieces of contrasting musical styles (total duration: maximum 10 minutes). The two pieces may be recorded separately and edited into a single file. The recording can be from a concert, recital, or specifically recorded for the competition, with or without an audience. Only YouTube and Vimeo links are accepted.


June 25, 2025 - First Round

Morning - First round

Afternoon and evening - First round

Programme:

Maximum duration: 20 minutes

  • Choose one virtuosic étude.

  • Choose one prelude from Debussy's "Préludes" (Book I or II).

  • Complete the programme with freely chosen pieces.


June 26, 2025 - Semifinals

Afternoon and evening - Semifinals

Programme:

Maximum duration: 50 minutes

  • Perform one work from the repertoire dedicated to or premiered by Ricard Viñes. See the Ricard Viñes Repertoire section.

  • The new mandatory work written especially for the competition. The score will be sent to accepted participants after their selection. See the Contemporary Work section. The duration of this piece will be 5 minutes.

  • Complete the programme with freely chosen pieces.

Candidates must submit a programme with a statement of intent. See the Programme Notes section below.


June 28, 2025 - Final

Programme:

Performance of one of the following concertos, chosen by the contestant:

  • W. A. MOZART: Concerto No. 20 in D minor, KV 466 or Concerto No. 23 in A major, KV 488
  • L. V. BEETHOVEN: Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37, Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58, or Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73
  • F. CHOPIN: Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11 or Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21
  • E. GRIEG: Concerto in A minor, Op. 16
  • F. LISZT: Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major, S. 124
  • R. SCHUMANN: Concerto in A minor, Op. 54
  • P. I. TCHAIKOVSKY: Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23
  • S. RACHMANINOFF: Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18
  • M. RAVEL: Concerto in G major

The orchestra accompanying the final will be the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Néstor Bayona.

Details about the programme:

  • The order of interpretation of pieces is at the discretion of each participant for each phase of the competition.

  • The repertoire for the first round and the semifinals must be different.

  • Memory of the repertoire is not required.

Programme Notes:

Candidates are required to submit a programme with an statement of intent for the semifinal recital, following these steps:

  • Candidates must provide a written explanation (statement of intent) about their artistic vision or reasoning behind their programme choices. This letter typically describes the candidate's thought process in selecting the repertoire, what they aim to express through their interpretation, and how the pieces are thematically or musically connected.
