New this edition, the Ricard Viñes International Piano Competition will commission a new piano work from a Spanish composer, in order to promote contemporary works and provide an interpretive challenge for the participants.

MANDATORY CONTEMPORARY WORK

New this edition of the competition, a new piano work is commissioned from a Spanish composer.

For the 26th edition of the competition, a solo piano piece will be commissioned from composer Marc Migó.

The piece will last 5 minutes. The sheet music will be sent by email to all selected participants on April 30, 2025, when the list of selected candidates is announced. All accepted participants must prepare this piece before arriving in Lleida in June 2025.

It is not required to perform this work from memory.


ABOUT MARC MIGÓ

Marc Migó is a Barcelona-born composer, born in 1993, with an outstanding international career. His passion for music began during his teenage years when he started studying piano and music theory with Liliana Sainz and Xavier Boliart, respectively. Later, he studied with Salvador Brotons at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.

In 2017, he was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, where he completed a master’s degree in composition and received awards such as the “Orchestral Composition Prize” in 2018 and 2021. Since then, he has received numerous commissions, including an opera for the Decameron Opera Coalition, a work for the Liceu Opera, and a symphony for Metamorphosen Berlin, among others.

Migó has premiered works in prestigious venues such as the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. He has collaborated with renowned orchestras and ensembles such as the Minnesota Orchestra, the New Juilliard Ensemble, and the Ensemble Intercontemporain. Currently, he divides his time between Barcelona and New York, successfully pursuing his career in both cities.
